Diabetes is a factor in half of peripheral neuropathy cases, experts reveal
Peripheral neuropathy affects approximately 1% of the general population, according to doctors at the Guntur Continuing Medical Education series. However, this number increases significantly to around 10% for adults over 60.
The condition is often associated with diabetes, which is a factor in about half of the peripheral neuropathy cases. The Lalitha CME Series on ‘Advances in Peripheral Neuropathy’ was organised by Lalitha PVS Institute of Medical Sciences, and it brought together around 200 doctors, neurologists, and faculty from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The CME series was launched on Sunday, September 6, 2026, and featured discussions from experts such as Satish Khadilkar from Bombay Hospital, Mumbai, and P. Vijaya, Managing Director and HOD, Neurosciences. The experts stressed the importance of early recognition, proper evaluation, and timely treatment of peripheral neuropathy.
