Tommy Coyle Gives Away 400+ Uniforms
Ex-boxer's annual giveaway in Hull tackles rising uniform costs that leave underprivileged families struggling
Former Commonwealth lightweight champion Tommy Coyle is hosting an annual school uniform giveaway in Hull, providing free uniforms to underprivileged children. The event, which takes place at Coyle's gym, TC60, on Humber Street, aims to support families during an expensive time of year when prices, including those of uniforms, are increasing.
Around 400 uniforms were given to families last year, and the number tends to increase year by year. This year's event will take place on a Thursday from 10:00 until 13:00 BST, with Coyle giving out unbranded uniforms of all colours and sizes with no questions asked for those who attend.
The school uniform giveaway is being supported by local businesses such as Transwaste Recycling, Cranswick, and MKM. Coyle's sporting foundation, set up after his retirement from boxing in 2019, has led a number of initiatives for underprivileged children, including a mobile boxing gym.
Coyle's reason for hosting the event is partly personal, stemming from his experiences with bullying related to clothing brands in school. He believes that everybody should be able to feel included at school, regardless of whether they have branded or unbranded uniforms.
