500M Journeys: FASTag Pass Soars
Adoption surges from 2.5% to 30% in one year, with 20.2% of car passages using the annual pass

The FASTag Annual Pass has seen a remarkable 500 million journeys in its first year, with adoption increasing from 2.5% to 30% between August 2025 and July 2026.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) launched the FASTag Annual Pass on August 15, 2025, with an initial fee of ₹3,000 for one year validity or 200 toll plaza crossings. The fee was later revised to ₹3,075 from April 2026 onwards.
According to data from Roads India and Akara Research & Technologies, the analysis of FASTag data was based on usage data from 1,243 national highway toll plazas across 25 states. The annual pass usage data showed that 20.2% of all car, van, and jeep (CJV) passages utilized the annual pass.
The CJV traffic growth accelerated from 7.6% to 10.9% after the introduction of the FASTag Annual Pass. The Annual Pass policy may have contributed around 2-3 percentage points to CJV traffic growth, driving millions of CJV volumes on the national highways.
## Why it matters The increased adoption of the FASTag Annual Pass has not only accelerated traffic growth on national highways but also addressed initial concerns related to potential revenue loss for road developers from toll collections. With the pass seeing massive uptake, it is likely to continue contributing to the growth of traffic on national highways, making travel more convenient and efficient for vehicle owners.
