Ayodhya Temple Priests Don Yellow

The Ayodhya Ram Temple has introduced a new dress code for its priests, requiring them to wear traditional yellow upper garments, known as uttariya, during rituals. This change is aimed at giving the religious proceedings a more disciplined and dignified character.

The new dress code is based on Vaishnav traditions and the Ramanandacharya lineage, which is followed at the temple. The temple's religious committee, which includes member Mithilesh Nandini Sharan, prescribed the new dress code.

The new attire was first seen during the Jhulanotsav celebrations at the temple, where priests dressed in yellow uttariya performed rituals and Vedic ceremonies. The dress code is intended to bring a sense of uniformity and consistency to the appearance of priests involved in worship and ceremonial duties.

## Why it matters The introduction of the new dress code is significant as it reflects the temple's efforts to adhere to traditional Vaishnav customs and the Ramanandacharya lineage. The change is also expected to enhance the overall experience of devotees visiting the temple, by providing a more disciplined and dignified atmosphere during religious proceedings.

The Ayodhya Ram Temple is an important religious site, and the introduction of the new dress code is a notable development in its efforts to maintain traditional practices and customs. As the temple continues to evolve and grow, it is likely that the new dress code will become an integral part of its identity and traditions.
