Union Minister Chirag Paswan supports renaming Bakhtiyarpur to honour Nitish Kumar, while also demanding a life-size statue of his father Ram Vilas Paswan in Patna
Chirag Paswan, Union Minister and LJP(RV) chief, has backed a proposal to rename Bakhtiyarpur as Nitishpur in honour of Nitish Kumar, a former chief minister of Bihar and current Rajya Sabha member. The proposal was suggested by Hindustani Awam Morcha national president Santosh Kumar Suman.
The renaming proposal has added political weight to efforts to honour Nitish Kumar, reopening debate on legacy politics in Bihar. Chirag Paswan called the proposal a good one, stating that Nitish Kumar has contributed immensely to the progress of Bihar over a long period of time. He believes that naming a place after him will ensure that his contributions are remembered by future generations.
Chirag Paswan also demanded a life-size statue of his father Ram Vilas Paswan in Patna, saying that his party's state president met Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday to make the request. He stated that there is nothing wrong in naming places after notable figures or building their statues, citing Nitish Kumar, Ram Vilas Paswan, and Lalu Prasad Yadav as examples.
On the other hand, JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha sidestepped a question on the proposal to rename Bakhtiyarpur, saying that Nitish Kumar does not believe in rechristening places.
Chirag Paswan also expressed his views on Bihar's liquor ban, which has resulted in revenue losses, according to him. He expressed confidence that the NDA government in Bihar would be able to expand the state's budget in the coming years.
