150 GCCs Land in Hyderabad

Hyderabad has undergone a significant industrial transformation over the decades, adapting to shifting economic realities and emerging as a hub for various industries. The city is home to public sector undertakings such as Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (IDPL), and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL), and has attracted numerous Global Capability Centres (GCCs) of multinational corporations.

The city has industrial estates and engineering clusters in areas such as Balanagar, Uppal, Jeedimetla, and Patancheru, which remain popular industrial destinations. Hyderabad has emerged as a preferred destination for GCCs, with the city commanding 16% of the country’s total GCC leasing activity during the 2024 to mid-2026 period. GCCs accounted for 42% of all office leasing activity within Hyderabad itself.

Hyderabad has attracted nearly 150 GCCs in a span of 20 months, generating more than 1.5 lakh high-value technology jobs. The city has a diversified industrial landscape, including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, engineering, Life Sciences, defence, aerospace, space technology, electric mobility, electronics manufacturing, and data centres. Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace became the first private Indian company to launch an orbital-class rocket from Indian soil.

## Why it matters The city's industrial transformation has been driven by a strong talent base, world-class infrastructure, and a business-friendly ecosystem. Real estate consultancy JLL said Hyderabad is on course to be a powerhouse for GCCs in India. Telangana IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu spoke at the event of the opening of JLL Business Services (JBS) in the city, highlighting the city's attractiveness to investors.

The city's ability to reinvent its industrial DNA has enabled it to stay ahead of the curve, with a blend of old-economy industries and new-age enterprises. From pharmaceuticals and chemicals to cutting-edge work in Life Sciences, defence, and aerospace, Hyderabad is poised to continue its growth trajectory as a major industrial hub.
