India's 'Tarun Bharat' Takes Center Stage
Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar suggests replacing 'Gen Z' with 'Tarun Bharat' to refer to the younger generation, citing their significant contributions to the global economy

Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar has suggested using the term 'Tarun Bharat' instead of 'Gen Z' to refer to the younger generation. Tomar made this suggestion while addressing an event of Indian journalism organised by the State Press Club in Indore.
The term 'Gen Z' refers to the generation born mainly between 1997 and 2012. Tomar praised the achievements and contributions of this generation, saying they have conducted more experiments in the last 10-15 years than ever before.
Tomar also praised PM Modi's leadership, stating that India has gained global recognition under his leadership. He noted that Indian youth are contributing significantly to the global economy, with many young members of the Indian diaspora attending the prime minister's programmes abroad.
The growth of startups in India is a notable example of the younger generation's contributions. According to Tomar, there were only 300-400 startups in India when the current government came into power, but now there are thousands of startups.
## Why it matters The suggestion to use 'Tarun Bharat' instead of 'Gen Z' reflects a desire to acknowledge the significant role that the younger generation is playing in India's growth and development. As the country continues to evolve and grow, the contributions of its young people will be crucial to its success. By recognizing and embracing this generation, India can harness their energy and ideas to drive progress and innovation.
The use of 'Tarun Bharat' also highlights the importance of language and terminology in shaping our perceptions and attitudes towards different generations. By using a term that is more inclusive and descriptive, India can promote a more positive and supportive environment for its young people to thrive.
