TVS Family Feud: 8 Caveats Filed
Venu Srinivasan, his son and wife, along with daughter, file caveats in Chennai courts as ownership dispute hangs over business conglomerate

The TVS family has filed a total of eight caveats in two Chennai courts, as an ownership dispute hangs over the business conglomerate. Venu Srinivasan, his son Sudarshan, wife Mallika, and daughter Lakshmi have filed the caveats, which act as a pre-emptive shield to ensure that no ex-parte interim order can be passed against them.
The caveats were filed on October 12 and 13, with Venu Srinivasan and his son Sudarshan on one side, and Mallika and Lakshmi on the other. The family members are split into two camps, with each side seeking to resolve the dispute amicably. Venu Srinivasan and Sudarshan control TVS Holdings, the main holding company of TVS Motor Company, and also control the privately owned financial services and real estate business.
In 2024, Venu Srinivasan and his family members signed a family agreement, under which his son Sudarshan and daughter Lakshmi were given control of two public companies: TVS Motor and Sundaram-Clayton Ltd. However, the agreement has been disputed by Mallika and Lakshmi, who have reiterated their desire for an amicable resolution through transparent discussions and dialogue.
The wider TVS business was divided between Venu Srinivasan and his cousins in 2020. The current dispute is a result of the family members' inability to come to an agreement on the ownership and control of the business. Venu Srinivasan has approached the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to file caveats, which will ensure that the court hears his side before passing any order.
## Why it matters The TVS family feud has significant implications for the business conglomerate and its stakeholders. The dispute has the potential to affect the operations and management of the company, and may also impact the livelihoods of thousands of employees. The fact that the family members have filed caveats in court suggests that the dispute is unlikely to be resolved quickly, and may drag on for several months or even years.
The TVS group is a significant player in the Indian economy, with interests in automotive, financial services, and real estate. The company's stability and continuity are crucial for the economy, and any disruption to its operations could have far-reaching consequences. As the dispute continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the family members will resolve their differences and ensure the long-term sustainability of the business.
