7M Follower Social Star Turns Horror Director
Spencer Lackey, with 7 million followers across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, is making his feature film debut with 'Lust', a horror movie co-financed by Neon and Blumhouse Atomic Monster

Spencer Lackey, a social media personality with 7 million followers across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, is set to make his feature film debut with 'Lust', a horror movie co-financed by Neon and Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
The film is being produced by a team of experienced horror professionals, including Steven Schneider for Spooky Pictures, and Jason Blum and James Wan for Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Lackey will write and direct the film, which is being kept under wraps for now.
Lackey has built an audience with his short-form horror content, including the Mike Flanagan-produced liminal-space short 'You Are Here', which made the festival circuit last year. He is known for embracing absurd premises in his online content, such as a monster watching him do laundry.
The move comes after a successful year for filmmakers who got their start making social clips and YouTube videos. Curry Barker's 'Obsession' has made over $509 million worldwide on a budget of around $750,000, while Kane Parsons' 'Backrooms' made $394 million worldwide on a budget of less than $10 million.
## Why it matters The success of 'Obsession' and 'Backrooms' has shown that a new generation of filmmakers can attract audiences to theaters, and Lackey's debut is highly anticipated. With the backing of Neon and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, 'Lust' is set to be a major horror release. Lackey is represented by 3 Arts Entertainment, WME, and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.
## What happens next As 'Lust' goes into production, fans of Lackey's social media content will be eagerly awaiting the film's release. With its experienced production team and Lackey's unique voice, 'Lust' is set to be a horror film to watch out for.
