Brad Pitt's Kids Reject His Name
4 of his 6 children, including Vivienne, 18, and Shiloh, 20, file to drop 'Pitt' surname amid custody battle
Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has taken a step towards dropping her father's last name by publishing a legal notice in the Los Angeles Daily Journal. The notice, which was published once a week for four consecutive weeks from July 24 to August 14, announces her intention to change her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
Vivienne's hearing is scheduled for November 2, where a judge can approve the request if no one objects. This is not the first time one of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's children has sought to drop the 'Pitt' surname. Shiloh, 20, was the first to do so, changing her name to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie in 2024.
Maddox, 25, and Zahara, 21, have also filed to change their names, with hearings set for September 14 and September 28, respectively. Vivienne has been using only the 'Jolie' surname professionally, including in the playbill for the 2024 Broadway production of 'The Outsiders'.
## Why it matters The name change is the latest development in the ongoing saga of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's divorce, which was finalized in 2019 after their 2016 separation. The couple's six children have been at the center of a custody battle, with Brad Pitt largely estranged from them. The trend of the children dropping the 'Pitt' surname may be a sign of their desire to distance themselves from their father.
## What happens next Vivienne's hearing on November 2 will determine whether her name change is approved. If no one objects, the judge is likely to grant the request, allowing Vivienne to officially drop the 'Pitt' surname. This would make her the latest of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's children to do so, following in the footsteps of her siblings Shiloh, Maddox, and Zahara.
