Brutal Legend 2 Needs $100m Kickstarter
Double Fine's new campaign has a lofty stretch goal to fund the sequel, but has already raised over £236,000 towards its initial £295,399 target

Double Fine has launched a Kickstarter campaign for 'Amnesia Fortnight 2026, Indie Reboot' with a stretch goal of $100m to make Brutal Legend 2, a sequel to the 2009 game Brutal Legend. The campaign has currently raised over £236,000 of its initial £295,399 funding goal.
The $100m stretch goal is a significant one, and it's unclear whether the campaign will be able to reach it. For context, the most successful Kickstarter campaign of all time raised $46m for a 3D printer, while the most successful video game Kickstarter campaign, Shenmue 3, raised $6m.
Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight game jam started in 2007, and this year's campaign allows backers to vote for four game ideas, one of which will be chosen to become a real game, published under Double Fine Action Labs.
The prospect of a Brutal Legend 2 has been a long-awaited one for fans of the original game, which was released in 2009. The game, which features Jack Black as the voice of Eddie Riggs, is an open-world game set in a fantasy world inspired by '80s metal album covers.
## Why it matters The success of the Kickstarter campaign is crucial for Double Fine, which regained its independence and entire gameography after being under Xbox's ownership. The studio is now looking to fund new projects, including the potential sequel to Brutal Legend. If the campaign reaches its stretch goal, it would be a significant milestone for the studio and the gaming industry as a whole.
The campaign's success is also a testament to the power of crowdfunding and the dedication of fans. With the initial funding goal already close to being reached, it remains to be seen whether the campaign can reach the lofty stretch goal of $100m.
