Dave Marsh, a renowned music critic, biographer, and activist, died on August 14 at the age of 76. Marsh's death was confirmed by his friend Jim Rotolo, who announced the news on social media.

Marsh was a prolific writer, penning over 25 books, including 'Born to Run: The Bruce Springsteen Story' and 'Before I Get Old: The Story of the Who'. He was also a longtime rock critic for Creem and Rolling Stone, and hosted 'Kick Out the Jams' on SiriusXM for 19 years.

In addition to his work as a critic and biographer, Marsh was also a passionate activist for health care, social justice, and freedom of expression. He founded the Kristen Ann Carr Fund, a charity that helps families of cancer patients and advances research for sarcoma treatment, in honor of his daughter Kristen Ann Carr, who died in 1993 at the age of 21 from sarcoma.

Marsh's wife, Barbara Carr, served as Bruce Springsteen's co-manager for several decades, and Marsh himself was a key figure in Springsteen's early career, writing the first significant biography of the musician in 1979. He also updated the book several times, most recently in 2003 as 'Bruce Springsteen: Two Hearts: The Definitive Biography, 1972-2003'.
