The iconic rock band has allowed their song to be featured in the trailer for the upcoming Narnia movie, a rare instance of usage in film, thanks to filmmaker Greta Gerwig's personal efforts
Led Zeppelin has given the green light for their iconic song 'Stairway to Heaven' to be used in the trailer for the upcoming Narnia movie, marking a rare instance of the band loosening their grip on the song's usage in film. The trailer for Narnia: The Magician's Nephew debuted on October 13, featuring segments of 'Stairway to Heaven', including the guitar intro, bridge, and outro.
The song's inclusion was made possible by filmmaker Greta Gerwig, who personally met with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page to secure the song's usage. This is a significant departure from the band's previous stance on allowing 'Stairway to Heaven' to be used in films. In the past, the band has been restrictive about licensing the song, with notable examples including the removal of the song from the home releases of the movie Wayne's World due to licensing disagreements.
The song 'Stairway to Heaven' was previously used in the concert film and documentary The Song Remains the Same from 1976. Additionally, a scene from the movie Almost Famous that featured 'Stairway to Heaven' was cut due to licensing disagreements with Led Zeppelin. However, the 2022 Blu-ray edition of Wayne's World included a short intro portion of 'Stairway to Heaven', indicating a slight easing of the band's stance.
