X-Files Creator Releases Director's Cut

Chris Carter is releasing a director's cut of the 2008 film The X-Files: I Want to Believe, titled The X-Files: I Want to Believe - Vrach Frankenshteyn, which will premiere on Disney+ and Hulu on August 14. This new version of the film is a contemporary retelling of Dr. Frankenstein and amps up the horror elements that were removed from the original to achieve a PG-13 rating.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe - Vrach Frankenshteyn is seven minutes shorter than the original theatrical version. Carter has stated that he hopes this version will find a wider audience and give fans what they wanted. The film's release comes as a new X-Files series is in the works with Ryan Coogler at the helm.

The new series, a reboot of the original, will star Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel as two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents. Chris Carter thinks that Gillian Anderson will appear in the Coogler version of The X-Files. Ryan Coogler has wrapped filming on the pilot for the new series.
