The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will halt flights at Reagan Washington National Airport for three hours on August 23 to accommodate the Freedom 250 Grand Prix IndyCar race. This event is part of the celebrations marking America's 250th birthday.
The airspace above the National Airport will be closed from 10:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. EDT on August 23 to ensure safe and efficient air traffic movement during the race. The 1.7-mile street course will wind through the city, passing by notable landmarks such as the National Archives, National Gallery of Art, and Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
The Freedom 250 Grand Prix will be the first-ever Indy car race on the National Mall. President Trump ordered preparations for the race in an executive order earlier this year, aiming to showcase the city's majesty as drivers race around its recognizable landmarks.
General admission to the race is free, although spectators can opt for a $5,000 two-day 'Champions Club' package for premium access during the race weekend. The #14 Homes For Our Troops Chevrolet, driven by Santino Ferrucci, will carry the White House Historical Association logo throughout the race weekend.
