Mom Runs 3km Barefoot

A 47-year-old mother, Ramabai, has won Rs 3,000 in prize money after running 3km barefoot in a sari to support her daughters' education. Ramabai, who works in the kitchen at Dnyandeep Academy, making over 200 chapatis every day and earning Rs 9,000 a month, participated in the race without any training.

Ramabai's motivation to run the race stemmed from her desire to support her two daughters, Arti and Pooja. Her younger daughter, Arti, 20, is studying BSc Computer Science and lives alone in Nanded. On August 28, Arti called her mother asking for money to pay for food and rent, leaving Ramabai worried and sleepless.

Ramabai's elder daughter, Pooja, 22, also participated in the race and finished second in the 18-30 age category, winning Rs 2,000. Dnyandeep Academy, where Ramabai works, had enrolled Pooja free of cost and provided her with employment and a room to stay.
