Yahoo Sports Unveils Milestones, Shop, and Profile
New features allow users to collect digital collectibles commemorating historic moments in sports, with rarity tiers and in-app currency, now live across MLB, NFL, and college football

Yahoo has introduced new features called Milestones, Shop, and Profile on its Sports and Fantasy apps, allowing users to collect digital collectibles commemorating historic moments in sports. The features are designed to appeal to a broad range of sports fans and tap into the booming collectibles market.
Users can collect Milestones by tapping on the Milestone bar on the Yahoo Sports app and website Game pages and in the Yahoo Fantasy app Fantasy Feed. There are two type tiers for Milestones: 'Common' and 'Legendary' and five rarity tiers: 'Immortal', 'Hall of Fame', 'Elite', 'All-Star', and 'Starter'.
The new features are live across MLB, NFL, and college football, and are available to Yahoo Sports' 100 million monthly visitors. According to Andrew Machado, vice president of product design and engineering at Yahoo Sports, the features are designed to appeal to a broad range of sports fans, from casual to committed.
Users can cash in less-prized collectibles in exchange for in-app currency, called points, which can be redeemed for digital assets such as avatars created by notable street-culture designers. This allows users to express their fandom and showcase their collections.
## Why it matters The introduction of Milestones, Shop, and Profile is a significant move by Yahoo to tap into the booming collectibles market. The market has seen significant growth in recent years, with companies like Fanatics and Topps trading-card company experiencing huge success. By creating in-the-moment, in-app digital collectibles, Yahoo is taking a different approach to traditional collectibles, allowing users to commemorate historic moments in sports in a unique and interactive way.
The features are also designed to enhance the user experience, allowing fans to engage with each other and showcase their collections. With the ability to cash in less-prized collectibles for in-app currency, users can redeem digital assets and express their fandom in a more meaningful way.
## What happens next As the features continue to roll out, users can expect to see more Milestones and digital collectibles available across different sports and leagues. With the growing social aspect of collectibles, Yahoo's approach is likely to appeal to a broad range of sports fans, from casual to committed. As the collectibles market continues to boom, it will be interesting to see how Yahoo's new features evolve and adapt to user demand.
