AEREDIUM Launches AERSeal
New threshold signing system prevents single-key control of smart contracts on Ethereum Virtual Machine networks

AEREDIUM has launched AERSeal, a security product designed to replace single-key control of smart contracts with a threshold signing system. This new system prevents a single compromised private key from handing an attacker control of a contract, a significant vulnerability in current smart contract security.
The threshold signing system, which runs on AERKey, AEREDIUM’s key infrastructure, divides control across multiple key shares, each sitting in a separate hardware-attested enclave. This approach ensures that the system never reconstructs the full key, instead using the CGGMP24 threshold signing protocol to produce signatures.
Organisations using AERSeal can set an M-of-N approval policy, determining who may authorise an action and how many approvals it requires. For example, a company could require three out of five authorised signatories to approve a contract upgrade, adding an extra layer of security to the process.
AERSeal currently supports contracts on Ethereum Virtual Machine networks and other EVM-compatible blockchains, making it a versatile solution for organisations looking to enhance their smart contract security. The onboarding process for AERSeal involves six steps, including identity or business verification, contract registration, and cryptographic setup.
## What it means The launch of AERSeal addresses a significant issue in smart contract security, where a single compromised private key can give an attacker control of a contract. By replacing single-key control with a threshold signing system, AERSeal prevents any single person or device from independently exercising a smart contract’s administrative powers. This is particularly important at a time when attackers are increasingly targeting the people holding keys, rather than the code itself.
## Why it matters The stakes are high when it comes to smart contract security, as a single compromised key can have significant consequences. With AERSeal, organisations can rest assured that their contracts are more secure, and that multiple approvals are required for sensitive operations. This added layer of security can help prevent attacks and protect organisations from financial losses.
## What happens next As AERSeal continues to support more blockchains and organisations, it is likely to play a significant role in enhancing smart contract security. With its threshold signing system and M-of-N approval policy, AERSeal provides a robust solution for organisations looking to protect their contracts from potential attacks. As the use of smart contracts continues to grow, the importance of secure solutions like AERSeal will only continue to increase.
