Claude's Chrome Extension Now a Full Cowork Session
Anthropic's update allows users to access AI tools in the browser and carry conversations and tasks across multiple devices and apps, with features like automatic form filling and link clicking
Anthropic's Claude browser extension has been upgraded to a full Cowork session, enabling users to access AI tools in the browser and carry conversations and tasks across multiple devices and apps. This update allows conversations started in the side panel to be saved to Claude history and resumed from the Claude desktop, web, and mobile apps.
The updated Chrome extension can see the current page and act on it using a person's existing browser logins, including clicking links, moving between pages, entering text, and filling out forms. This feature is particularly useful for tools that do not connect directly to Claude, such as internal dashboards, legacy systems, or vendor portals.
For example, users can ask Claude to collect invoice details from several vendor portals, build a spreadsheet, and then continue the same session on desktop to add local files or compare the result with a previous budget. The update is available today for Max and Team customers, with a Pro rollout planned over the coming weeks.
Enterprise administrators can enable the feature and restrict access to approved domains, providing an additional layer of security. Anthropic has also added a new check that reviews consequential actions, such as submitting a form or sending a message, against the user's original request before it happens. Additionally, Claude will still ask permission before performing actions like making a purchase or sharing personal information.
## What it means The update closes a gap in Claude's browser workflow, where side panel sessions previously remained separate from sessions in Claude's other apps, leaving their conversations and context behind. This change allows tasks to be started in a Claude app and then continued in a Chrome browser or vice versa, providing a more seamless experience for users.
## Why it matters The upgrade is significant because it allows users to access AI tools in the browser and carry conversations and tasks across multiple devices and apps, making it easier to work on complex tasks that require multiple tools and systems. The feature also addresses the safety side of browser automation, with Anthropic warning that browser agents remain vulnerable to prompt injection, and implementing safeguards to reduce risk.
The update is part of Anthropic's efforts to expand how Claude interacts with the web, including a separate in-app browser for Claude Code that lets it read documentation without leaving the coding environment. With this update, Claude can now connect across multiple systems and tools, providing a more integrated and efficient experience for users.
