Laptop Ditches Fans for 'Cooling Chips'
Lenovo's AeroBlade concept laptop uses tiny chips to silently cool its processor, making it thinner and lighter than comparable laptops

Lenovo has unveiled a concept laptop called AeroBlade that uses high-speed air to silently cool its processor, instead of conventional fans or heat sinks. The laptop is fitted with four low-power cooling chips that are solid-state and active.
The cooling chips, made by engineers at Frore Systems, contain tiny membranes that vibrate at ultrasonic frequencies to create 2,000 pascals of back pressure. This forces ambient air through tiny internal jets onto a copper base layer, carrying heat away from the laptop's central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing units (GPU).
The AeroBlade laptop measures less than 0.39 inches thick and weighs 1.8 pounds, making it much thinner and lighter than comparable laptops. It features a 14-inch OLED display and is powered by the low-power AirJet Mini chip, which measures 1.63 x 1.06 x 0.1 inches and weighs 0.02 pounds.
## What it means The AeroBlade laptop's innovative cooling system has significant implications for the future of laptop design. By eliminating the need for noisy fans and heat sinks, Lenovo has created a device that is not only thinner and lighter but also quieter and more efficient. This technology has the potential to revolutionize the way laptops are designed and built, enabling the creation of more powerful and portable devices.
The AeroBlade laptop was unveiled at Lenovo Innovation World '26, which took place on September 3 at IFA 2026 in Berlin. As a concept laptop, it is not yet available for purchase, but it demonstrates the exciting possibilities of future laptop design and technology.
## Why it matters The development of the AeroBlade laptop's cooling system is a significant breakthrough in the field of computer engineering. The use of tiny membranes and ultrasonic frequencies to create high-speed air flow is a novel approach to cooling, and one that could have far-reaching implications for the design of future laptops and other electronic devices. As laptops become increasingly powerful and compact, the need for efficient and effective cooling systems will only continue to grow, making innovations like the AeroBlade laptop's cooling system more important than ever.
