Microsoft Unifies Copilot Apps
The tech giant is merging its consumer and enterprise Copilot apps into a single experience, starting with mobile and web apps in mid-August, with 30 million paid seats already using the service

Microsoft is merging its consumer and enterprise Copilot apps into a unified experience, starting with a rollout to mobile and web apps in mid-August, followed by Windows and Mac apps in mid-September. This move is part of the company's plan to launch a super app later this year.
The unified Copilot app will allow users to jump straight from a Copilot conversation into Word, Excel, or Outlook without leaving the app. This change aims to simplify the app ecosystem and make the entire Copilot-first experience more cohesive for both consumer and business users.
As part of the merger, Microsoft is retiring some features, including Podcasts, Group Chat, and Deep Research. The Mico avatar will also be removed from the voice section of Copilot and moved to the Learn Live hub.
The Microsoft 365 Copilot service has already reached over 30 million paid seats. The unified Copilot app will not change enterprise security, compliance, or government controls, ensuring a seamless transition for business users.
Users will still be able to switch between personal and work or school accounts within the unified Copilot app, allowing for flexibility and convenience. The new app brings together the Copilot bot and its image generation features alongside the Microsoft 365 suite, files, and other content.
## What it means The merger of the Copilot apps is a significant step towards Microsoft's goal of launching a super app. With the company's Azure cloud business having crossed $100 billion in annual revenue, the unified Copilot app is expected to further enhance the user experience and increase productivity.
The changes will vary depending on the type of account a user had before the merger. Existing Microsoft Copilot users will be moved to the updated version, along with their chats and content, while Microsoft 365 Copilot app users will see minor navigation changes and gain access to Copilot chat.
The rollout of the unified Copilot app is a technical milestone in preparation for the super app launch later this year. As the company continues to expand its services, the unified Copilot app is expected to play a key role in enhancing the user experience and driving growth.
