Slow PC? 1 Simple Fix
Delete unnecessary startup apps in minutes using Task Manager and Settings to free up system resources and boost performance

When you start your Windows PC, the programs that run automatically can significantly impact how long your system takes to get going and how many system resources are available.
The startup apps can quickly get out of hand because it's easy to miss unchecking the 'Run at startup' box when installing software. Some programs can even add themselves to the startup list without alerting you.
To review what tools are included with system startup, the Task Manager is the best place to start. You can also manage startup apps at Settings > Apps > Startup.
Additionally, you can access the user account's Startup folder by typing 'shell:startup' into File Explorer's address bar or the Run dialog box. The common Startup folder, which contains startup apps that apply to all users, can be accessed by typing 'shell:common startup'.
You can delete shortcuts in the Startup folders to remove startup apps and place app shortcuts in the Startup folders to add new startup apps.
## Why it matters Managing startup apps is an important part of Windows maintenance. By regularly reviewing and managing these apps, you can ensure your system works more smoothly. This is because startup apps can consume system resources and slow down your PC. By disabling or removing unnecessary startup apps, you can free up system resources and improve your overall Windows experience.
## What happens next To get started, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, then click the Startup apps icon on the sidebar. For each app, you'll see whether it's enabled under Status, along with other information like the creator. You can disable an app by right-clicking it and choosing Disable, and always reverse this later if needed.
