Japanese officials are battling misinformation on social media, with a ministry official stating that sharing information under individual names allows for smoother posting without complicated procedures.

Previously, information was shared only when there was consent from affected individuals. This change in approach is part of the government's efforts to combat misinformation.

In addition to misinformation, Japan is also dealing with other issues, including the detention of Japanese nationals in China. China has detained several Japanese nationals, including top executives of companies with offices in China, for allegedly violating export restrictions on dual-use goods.

In late June, China's foreign ministry said that two Japanese nationals had been detained for alleged legal violations. The Japanese embassy in China issued an alert stating that the Chinese government had strengthened export controls on dual-use items, reminding Japanese companies to be cautious.

Meanwhile, Japanese authorities are also dealing with bear-related complaints. 17 local governments reported that bear-related complaints had disrupted their operations, with 10 local governments reporting complaints that took up a lot of time, such as phone calls lasting more than an hour. 5 local governments reported receiving an overwhelming number of grievances via their websites and by email.

## Why it matters The Japanese government's efforts to combat misinformation on social media are crucial, as the spread of false information can have serious consequences. The detentions of Japanese nationals in China and the bear-related complaints also highlight the need for effective communication and information sharing. The government's use of social media to share information and combat misinformation is an important step in addressing these issues.
