Warner Music Group (WMG), a New York-based music and entertainment company, is setting up a world-class music tech organisation in Bengaluru. The new hub, scheduled to open officially in September, will drive technical innovation across WMG’s global technology suite.
The Bengaluru facility will focus on music distribution, data infrastructure, and products, including core data pipelines as well as audience and marketing data products. Additionally, the hub will apply AI and other emerging technologies to engineering initiatives.
Mahesh Rao, Director of Software Engineering and Site Lead for India at WMG, will lead the expansion. Rao joined WMG after working at Walmart Global Tech, where he led software development. Leho Nigul, Chief Technology Officer at WMG, stated that Bengaluru is central to WMG’s global engineering strategy, and the company is investing heavily in local leadership, modern tech stacks, and globally competitive compensation to attract engineers.
The expansion adds to WMG’s broader presence in India, which was established six years ago with Mumbai as its headquarters. Jay Mehta, Managing Director of Warner Music India, cited the country’s creative ecosystem and technology talent as significant opportunities for the company.
## Why it matters The establishment of the Bengaluru hub is a significant move for WMG, as it will support the company’s global technology operations and drive innovation in the music industry.
