Mick Jagger Praises Sam Fender's Rolling Stones Cover
The Rolling Stones frontman approves of Sam Fender's rendition of 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' for a UK retailer's Christmas ad, featuring a choir from Fender's former school
Mick Jagger has given his seal of approval to Sam Fender's cover of The Rolling Stones' classic song 'You Can't Always Get What You Want'. The cover, recorded for a UK retailer's Christmas ad, features a choir from John Spence Community High School, Fender's former school, and a brass section from the Easington Colliery Band.
The song was recorded in Tyneside, England, and has been praised by Jagger, who said he is a fan of Fender's work and thinks he has done a great job with the cover. Fender has said it was a privilege to rework the iconic song and that he chose to feature the choir from his old school and the brass section from the Easington Colliery Band in the spirit of Christmas.
Fender's latest album, 'People Watching', was released last year and won the Mercury Prize, while Fender himself won BRIT Awards and an Ivor Novello Award. He is set to tour the UK and Ireland with his 'Proper Massive' stadium tour.
The cover of 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' is not only a great rendition of a classic song, but it also supports a good cause. 100% of the net proceeds from the single will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
## Why it matters The approval of Mick Jagger is a significant endorsement for Sam Fender, and the success of the cover could help to introduce Fender's music to a new audience. The fact that the song is being used for a UK retailer's Christmas ad also highlights the enduring appeal of The Rolling Stones' music and the ability of Fender to put his own spin on a classic song. With Fender's tour and new music on the horizon, this cover is a great way to keep his music in the public eye and to support a good cause at the same time.
