Paul Bettany Pops 10 Blood Vessels in Eye
Actor's 'wildly overacting' during filming of Disney+ series 'VisionQuest' causes eye to stay red for two weeks, requiring CGI removal from final shots
Paul Bettany, the actor playing Vision in the Disney+ series 'VisionQuest', has revealed that he accidentally popped 10 blood vessels in his eye while filming a scene. The incident occurred when Bettany was 'wildly overacting' during a scene where he was pretending to have a device on his head.
The actor explained that his eye stayed red for two weeks after the incident, which caused production to remove the red eye from the final shots using CGI. Bettany joked that it was a lesson in 'less is more' and that the irony of the situation was not lost on him, given that he plays a character who is nearly indestructible.
'VisionQuest' is a spinoff of 'WandaVision' and debuted on Disney+ on October 14. The series has a total of 8 episodes and will air its Season 1 finale on November 10. Bettany stars as Vision, an android and former Avenger, alongside other notable actors including James Spader, who reprises his role as Ultron.
## What happened next After the incident, Bettany's eye took two weeks to recover, during which time production had to use CGI to remove the red eye from the final shots. The actor has since joked about the experience, saying that it was a lesson in restraint and that he is 'kind of myopic' in real life, often relying on glasses to see.
## Why it matters The incident highlights the physical demands of acting and the importance of CGI in modern filmmaking. It also showcases Bettany's commitment to his role and his willingness to push himself to deliver a convincing performance. As 'VisionQuest' continues to air, fans will be eager to see how the series unfolds and how Bettany's character navigates the challenges ahead.
