Sufjan Stevens Returns to Stage After 8 Years

Sufjan Stevens has made his first live appearance in over eight years, marking a significant return to public performance for the acclaimed singer-songwriter. Stevens made a surprise onstage appearance during Meg Lui's show at Tempo in Kingston, New York, where he accompanied Lui on piano and backing vocals for her song 'Elvis Queen'.

The concert was Lui's record release event for her album Instant Validation, which was released on September 25 via Asthmatic Kitty Records. Stevens produced Lui's album, which features a range of talented musicians from their Hudson Valley friend group.

Stevens' return to the stage comes after a period of health issues and personal struggles, including a diagnosis of Guillain-Barré syndrome in 2023. The rare auto-immune disorder left him working to relearn how to walk and use his hands.

The appearance also comes ahead of the release of Stevens' new album, Worst Christmas Ever!, which is set to be released on November 6. The album includes a new song called 'On This Christmas (It Only Gets Better)', which is Stevens' first new Christmas song in 15 years.
