Top Indian ministers are holding talks in Singapore as part of the 4th India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) to strengthen economic partnership between the two countries. The roundtable, scheduled for August 19-20, 2026, is being led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who is accompanied by S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs; Piyush Goyal, Minister for Commerce & Industry; and Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Electronics & IT and Commerce & Industry.

The ISMR was established in 2022 as a key high-level economic mechanism between India and Singapore, providing a platform to review progress and explore new areas of collaboration. The mechanism is crucial, given that Singapore is India's largest trading partner in ASEAN, with India's imports from Singapore valued at $21.2 billion in 2024-25, while exports to the country were $14.4 billion.

Over the past 10 years, Singapore's annual investments in India have ranged between $10 billion and $15 billion, making it a significant source of foreign investment for the country. The 4th ISMR will enable both sides to review the progress of various ongoing initiatives and identify avenues to further strengthen India-Singapore collaboration.

## What's at Stake The talks are significant, given the substantial trade and investment between the two countries. With India's imports from Singapore valued at $21.2 billion and exports at $14.4 billion, the total trade between the two countries is valued at $35.6 billion. The ISMR will focus on boosting overall trade and investment between the two countries, with the fourth edition of the India-Singapore Business Roundtable also being held alongside the ISMR.

## Why it Matters The India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable is crucial for both countries, as it provides a platform to drive cooperation in new and emerging areas. The mechanism is expected to further strengthen the India-Singapore economic partnership, with a focus on areas such as advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalisation, healthcare, and medicine, skills development, and sustainability. The talks will also enable both sides to identify new opportunities for collaboration and investment, which will be beneficial for both countries.

The outcome of the talks is expected to have a significant impact on the economic partnership between India and Singapore, with the potential to increase trade and investment between the two countries. As India's largest trading partner in ASEAN, Singapore plays a crucial role in India's economic growth, and the ISMR will be closely watched by businesses and investors in both countries.
