Disney+ Snags Formula E Rights
Coverage kicks off in 140+ territories in 2026, with 21 rounds of racing on the schedule

Disney+ has acquired the global streaming rights for Formula E racing events, with coverage set to begin in the 2026-27 season. The deal will see Formula E events broadcast in over 140 territories, with the events also available on ESPN+ in the US.
The 2026-27 season will feature 21 rounds across 13 events, starting on December 18 in Saudi Arabia. The GEN4 car, which will be used in the upcoming season, boasts 600 kilowatts of power and can go from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 1.8 seconds.
The deal allows Formula E to maintain its local broadcast TV partnerships in key markets. This means that while Disney+ will provide global streaming coverage, Formula E will still be able to negotiate broadcast deals with local TV partners.
Disney+ will provide live coverage of every Formula E race weekend, including practice, qualifying, and the races themselves. The deal is a multi-year agreement, although the financial terms were not disclosed.
Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds described the deal as a 'landmark moment' for the championship, saying it will introduce Formula E to millions of new fans. The GEN4 era of Formula E will also feature new race formats, including the shorter E-Prix Unleashed races at selected double-header events.
## What it means The deal is significant for Formula E, as it provides a global platform for the championship to reach new fans. With Disney+'s unrivaled global reach and storytelling capabilities, Formula E will be able to showcase its innovative and exciting electric racing to a wider audience. The partnership also reflects the growing interest in electric vehicles and sustainable racing.
## Why it matters The deal is a major boost for Formula E, which has been growing in popularity since its inaugural season in 2014. With the introduction of the GEN4 car and new race formats, the championship is poised for further growth and expansion. The partnership with Disney+ will help to accelerate this growth, introducing Formula E to millions of new fans around the world.
