Ørsted's 913MW Wind Farm Goes Live
The Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea will provide renewable electricity to around 2.5 million households, with major corporations like Amazon and Google signed up to long-term power purchase agreements
Ørsted has commenced commercial operations at its 913 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 wind farm in the German North Sea. The project is one of the largest offshore wind farms in Germany and is co-owned by Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure.
The wind farm consists of 83 wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 11MW, and spans approximately 75km². It is located around 72km from the German coastline, making it a significant addition to the country's renewable energy infrastructure.
The commissioning of Borkum Riffgrund 3 forms a key part of Ørsted's 8.1GW offshore wind construction programme. With this project, Ørsted's installed offshore wind power capacity in Germany now totals around 2.5GW, enough to provide renewable electricity to around 2.5 million households.
A significant portion of the wind farm's capacity, 786MW, is contracted to major corporations under long-term corporate power purchase agreements. These companies include Amazon, BASF, Covestro, Energie-Handels-Gesellschaft/REWE Group, and Google.
