Tilaknagar Invests ₹22 Crore in Tequila Maker
The Mansion House maker acquires 30% stake in Black Tiger Distilleries, betting on India's 60% annual tequila growth

Tilaknagar Industries Ltd, the maker of Mansion House, is expanding into the tequila market with a ₹22 crore investment in Black Tiger Distilleries, acquiring a 30% stake in the company. The investment will be made in two tranches, with ₹6 crore initially and the remaining ₹16 crore within 12 months.
The move marks the company's entry into the tequila and agave spirits category, driven by the growing demand for premium spirits in India. Tequila volumes in India have grown at around 60% annually between 2020 and 2025, making it the fastest-growing major tequila market globally.
Tilaknagar Industries has been actively investing in emerging beverage companies, with this being its third strategic investment. The company had earlier invested ₹8.03 crore in October 2024 to acquire a 36.17% stake in Round the Cocktails, and raised its Bartisans holding to 41.45% following a further ₹2 crore investment in June 2026.
## Why it matters The investment in Black Tiger Distilleries is a significant move for Tilaknagar Industries, as it looks to diversify its portfolio and tap into the growing demand for premium spirits in India. With the country's drinking preferences evolving, the company is betting on the tequila category to drive growth. As Sanaya Dahanukar, General Manager – Growth & Innovation, Tilaknagar, noted, having a presence in tequila is an important part of the company's evolution into a more comprehensive luxury portfolio.
The company's shares were trading at ₹547.75 on the BSE on September 2, nearly flat at 0.28% from the previous close. The investment announcement saw the stock recover 3% from its day's low, with the company's shares touching a high of ₹548.
## What happens next As Tilaknagar Industries looks to build its presence in the tequila market, it will be interesting to see how the company's strategy plays out. With the growing demand for premium spirits in India, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on the trend. The investment in Black Tiger Distilleries is a significant step in this direction, and the company's future plans will be closely watched by investors and industry observers.
