PV Sindhu: Why Badminton Stars Can't Fund Own Tours

PV Sindhu, the world No. 6 badminton player, has qualified for the BWF World Tour Finals and recently won the Hylo Open on November 1. This victory marked her second title in four months, following her win at the 2024 Syed Modi International.

Sindhu's success can be attributed to her new support team, which she credited for her turnaround. The 31-year-old player emphasized the importance of having a strong team behind her, stating that they help her stay motivated and focused, even on days when she's not at her best.

The Indian shuttler also discussed the upcoming changes to the scoring format in badminton, which will switch to a 15-point system from next year. Sindhu believes that this change will require players to adapt quickly, as they will have less time to recover from a slow start.

Sindhu's recent performances have taken her back to the top 10 in the world rankings, and she has secured a place in the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals. Despite being 31, Sindhu insists that age is no barrier to competing at the highest level, as long as rest and recovery are prioritized.

## Why it matters The financial challenges faced by badminton players are a significant concern, as they often struggle to fund their own tours. Unlike tennis players, badminton players do not have the same level of financial support, making it difficult for them to compete at the highest level. Sindhu's comments highlight the need for greater support and resources for badminton players, to help them succeed in the sport.

Sindhu's victory at the Hylo Open and her qualification for the BWF World Tour Finals demonstrate her dedication and perseverance in the face of challenges. As the badminton world prepares for the changes to the scoring format, Sindhu's experiences and insights provide valuable lessons for players and fans alike.
