Google Gboard: 24Hr Clipboard
New slider lets users control clipboard duration from 1-24 hours, with Rambler tool boosting voice dictation accuracy
Google is working on a new feature for Gboard that will allow users to control the clipboard duration. A new slider in Gboard settings will let users choose how long copied text stays in the clipboard, with options to keep unpinned clipboard data for up to 24 hours.
The slider will include options to keep unpinned clipboard data for one hour, two hours, three hours, six hours, 12 hours, 18 hours, and 24 hours. This will give users more flexibility and control over their clipboard, which currently automatically deletes copied content after one hour unless it is pinned.
Gboard's Rambler tool is also being developed to improve voice dictation. Rambler can understand and transcribe rambling speech, including corrections and changes, and can translate between languages. The tool has an offline mode, but it will not include advanced stylistic rewrites and complex conversational voice editing.
Rambler is subject to usage limits, designed to ensure an optimal experience for everyone. The tool can learn new words as users speak to it, and can use words from the existing dictionary. This means that Rambler can improve over time and provide more accurate transcriptions.
## What it means The new feature and Rambler tool are significant updates to Gboard, which is one of the most popular keyboard apps for Android devices. The ability to control the clipboard duration will be useful for users who often find themselves in situations where they want their copied text to stay in the clipboard for a longer period. Rambler, on the other hand, has the potential to revolutionize voice dictation, making it more accurate and convenient for users.
The updates are part of Google's efforts to improve its keyboard app and provide users with more features and functionality. With the new feature and Rambler tool, Gboard is likely to become even more popular and widely used, especially among users who rely heavily on voice dictation and clipboard functionality.
## Why it matters The updates to Gboard are significant because they address some of the key pain points of users. The ability to control the clipboard duration will reduce the frustration of losing copied text, while Rambler will make voice dictation more accurate and convenient. The updates also demonstrate Google's commitment to improving its keyboard app and providing users with more features and functionality.
The impact of the updates will be felt by millions of users who rely on Gboard for their daily typing needs. The updates will also have implications for the wider tech industry, as they demonstrate the importance of continuous innovation and improvement in keyboard apps.
