Oklahoma Becomes 16th US State to Support iPhone Driver's License
Residents can now add a digital version of their driver's license to Apple Wallet, usable at TSA checkpoints, select businesses, and apps
Oklahoma has become the 16th US state to support Apple's iPhone driver's license feature in Apple Wallet, allowing residents to add a digital version of their driver's license to their iPhone and Apple Watch.
The feature can be used to display proof of identity or age at TSA checkpoints in select airports, at select businesses, and in select apps. To set up the feature, users can open the Wallet app on their iPhone, tap on the plus sign in the top-right corner, select Driver's License and ID Cards, choose Oklahoma from the list, and follow the on-screen steps.
Apple Wallet IDs are currently accepted at more than 250 airports for TSA checkpoints, as well as at various other businesses and venues. However, it's worth noting that Apple Wallet IDs are generally not accepted by law enforcement, so carrying a physical ID is still legally required for traffic stops.
The feature was first announced at WWDC in 2021 and has been gradually rolling out to different states. In addition to Oklahoma, the feature is also available in Puerto Rico and works with Japan's My Number Card. Apple has been preparing to launch the feature in North Carolina and Utah in the coming months, and Connecticut, Kentucky, and Mississippi are also committed to launching the feature at some point.
