The government plans to construct one lakh houses in the Core Urban Region (CURE) of Hyderabad, with 500 flats in each of the 16 Assembly constituencies under phase I. Each flat will have a built-up area of 528 square feet and a carpet area of 400 square feet. The government will provide a subsidy of ₹5 lakh for each flat, and beneficiaries will have to pay ₹6 lakh in four installments.
The lotteries to select beneficiaries will be held from August 20. The Telangana government has extended the deadline for applications to August 15, considering the series of holidays from Sunday to Monday. The Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, laid the foundation stone for the Indiramma Towers in Kukatpally on August 13.
## Why it matters The affordable housing scheme is a significant initiative by the Telangana government to provide housing to the needy. With the high number of applications received, it is clear that there is a huge demand for affordable housing in the city. The government's decision to extend the deadline for applications will provide more opportunities for people to apply for the scheme.
## What happens next The lotteries to select beneficiaries will be held from August 20, and the government has directed officials to complete the allotment of houses by the end of the month. The construction of the houses is expected to be completed within a year, and the government has announced plans to build 7,680 flats in housing towers across 16 Assembly constituencies under the first phase of its agenda to construct one lakh houses in Hyderabad.
