Former Naxal women walked the ramp in traditional sarees on National Handloom Day, symbolizing their successful rehabilitation and transformation from a life of violence to one of dignity and confidence. The event was held at the Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium in Raipur.
The women wore heirloom sarees with rich traditional prints, accessorised with silver waist belts and jhumkas, showcasing Chhattisgarh's rich handloom heritage. The event was a significant contrast to their former lives in Bastar's forests, where they carried weapons, but now they carry the legacy of Indian craftsmanship.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai praised the women's journey from carrying weapons to presenting the state's rich handloom heritage before the nation. He described their transformation as inspirational and as an expression of Chhattisgarh's proactive movement from violence towards development.
## Why it matters The event symbolized transformation from violence and fear to dignity, self-reliance, and confidence. The initiative highlighted the success of rehabilitation efforts and the changing face of Bastar and Chhattisgarh. National Handloom Day, observed on August 7, provided a platform for these women to showcase their new life and the rich handloom heritage of the state.
The event was more than just a fashion moment; it demonstrated that fashion can be a powerful tool for social change. The women's participation in the ramp walk showed that with patience and opportunity, everyone can turn over a new leaf. The event marked a new chapter in the lives of these former Naxal women, one that is filled with dignity, self-reliance, and confidence.
