The Pokémon Company has announced that it will be ending the service of Pokémon Bank on Nintendo 3DS in 2027, and users have fewer than 200 days to migrate their Pokémon to Pokémon Home, or they will be gone forever. The shutdown date is set for February 25, 2027, at 7 p.m. PST.

Pokémon Bank was originally released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, allowing trainers to import their Pokémon from various games into one collective location. The service was celebrated as a handy method of moving creatures between generations, particularly for competitive players and shiny hunters.

The shutdown of Pokémon Bank will affect the ability to transfer Pokémon from older games to newer ones on the Nintendo Switch. To migrate their Pokémon, users will need to transfer them to Pokémon Home, which requires a Pokémon Home Premium Plan subscription. The subscription costs $2.99 for one month, $4.99 for three months, and $15.99 for a year.

The shutdown will also impact the Ribbon system and the ability to collect certain Ribbons and Titles in the games. The Nintendo 3DS eShop was shut down in March 2023, making it impossible for new users to download Pokémon Bank.

## What happens next Pokémon Home will increase the number of Pokémon that Premium Plan subscribers can deposit to 9,000 in an October update, making it easier for users to migrate their Pokémon. However, the process can be long and complicated, and some users may need to use multiple systems, games, and apps to complete the transfer.

## Why it matters The shutdown of Pokémon Bank marks the end of an era for the Nintendo 3DS, which was a popular platform for Pokémon games. The closure will affect many great Pokémon games from over the years, including Pokémon Black and White, Pokémon X and Y, and Pokémon Sun and Moon. Users who have Pokémon stored in Pokémon Bank must act quickly to migrate them to Pokémon Home, or risk losing them forever.
