L7 Bassist Jennifer Finch's Memoir Out Jan 19
Shooting Up and Making Out: A Memoir of My Life in LA and L7, co-written with Jeff Alulis, chronicles Finch's life in the Los Angeles punk scene and her struggles with addiction

A posthumous memoir by L7 bassist Jennifer Finch, titled Shooting Up and Making Out: A Memoir of My Life in LA and L7, is set for publication on January 19, 2027, via Da Capo. The memoir was co-written with Jeff Alulis before Finch's death in July 2026.
The memoir chronicles Finch's life, including her teenage years in the Los Angeles punk scene, her struggle with heroin addiction, and her time in bands like L7 and Sugar Babydoll. Finch co-founded L7 with Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner in 1986, and was also a member of the band Sugar Babydoll, which included Courtney Love and Kat Bjelland.
Finch and Alulis worked together for two years to complete the memoir before her death. In a press statement, Alulis said he and Finch worked to ensure she was happy with every word of it, and that he is heartbroken she won't get to see it published, but thrilled to share her life and legacy with the world.
Finch died on July 18, 2026, at the age of 59, after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2011 and an aggressive form of brain cancer. L7 is currently on their farewell tour, which will proceed as planned.
