The win came after a strong performance from Cam Ward, who played much better than in previous games. Ward ended his night 8 of 12 for 69 yards, although he did have a fumble. The starting defense, however, allowed a touchdown on each of the Seahawks’ first two drives.
In other news, Arion Carter's suspension has been reduced from two games to one by the NCAA. Carter will miss the season opener against Furman but will play in the Week 2 game against Georgia Tech. The suspension was initially three games, but was reduced to two and then to one. Carter was suspended for accepting a $427 flight from his agent during the NFL pre-draft process.
Tennessee athletic director Danny White commented on the suspension, stating that it is an example of the NCAA applying archaic rules. The reduction in suspension is a significant development for Carter, who will now be able to play in the majority of the season.
