Gail India is investing $63.1 million in a heating unit at its Ratnagiri LNG terminal, which will enable the facility to operate at full capacity. The terminal is currently running at about 50% capacity due to the lack of an operational heating unit.

The heating unit is expected to be completed by June 2027, and will allow the terminal to reach its full capacity of 5 million tons per annum. This investment is a significant step towards increasing the terminal's efficiency and productivity.

The investment amount of $63.1 million is equivalent to 6 billion rupees. R. K. Singhal, business development director of GAIL India, announced the investment, stating that the facility is currently operating at reduced capacity due to the absence of a functional heating unit.

Gail India is also building a small captive power plant to generate heat for the liquefied natural gas facility. This will provide a reliable source of heat, replacing the previous arrangement where the facility used waste heat from a power plant operated by another entity.

## Why it matters The investment in the heating unit is crucial for the Ratnagiri LNG terminal to operate at full capacity. The terminal's current reduced capacity is affecting its ability to meet demand, and the new heating unit will help to increase the terminal's efficiency and productivity. This, in turn, will have a positive impact on the country's energy sector, as liquefied natural gas is a critical component of India's energy mix.

The completion of the heating unit by June 2027 is expected to have a significant impact on the terminal's operations, enabling it to meet growing demand for liquefied natural gas. With the new heating unit and captive power plant, Gail India is poised to increase its share in the energy market and contribute to the country's economic growth.
