Hundreds gather at London's Science Museum to attempt Guinness World Record for largest simultaneous Vulcan salute on Star Trek's 60th anniversary

Hundreds of Star Trek fans are gathering at London's Science Museum to attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous Vulcan salute on Star Trek Day, which marks the show's 60th anniversary. The event will take place on September 8, 2026.
The Vulcan salute, which involves raising the hand with the middle and ring fingers parted, first appeared in a 1967 episode of the TV series. This iconic gesture, made famous by Leonard Nimoy's character Spock, is a key part of the Star Trek franchise.
Glyn Morgan, the principal curator at the Science Museum, said that the museum is hosting a Star Trek Warp Trail, which includes props and uniforms from the shows and films, such as chief engineer Scotty's uniform and Admiral Jean-Luc Picard's uniform. The trail will close on September 13, 2026.
The record attempt is part of the celebration of Star Trek's 60th anniversary, which has produced many TV series and films since launching in the 1960s, including The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. If verified by an adjudicator, the attempt would set a new world record, as none currently exists in the category.
## Why it matters The Star Trek franchise has connected bold storytelling with big questions about science, technology, and what might be possible in the future, themes that sit at the heart of the Science Museum. The event is a special opportunity for fans to come together and celebrate the show's anniversary, and the Science Museum is delighted to invite fans back for another evening exploring the ideas, imagination, and real-world science behind the franchise.
The event is also a chance for fans to experience the Star Trek Warp Trail, which has been popular among fans. With no current Guinness World Record in the category of largest simultaneous Vulcan salute, the attempt is likely to set a new record and make history for the franchise.
