AOC Reveals She Is Freezing Her Eggs — and Won't Rule Out a 2028 Run for President

US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has announced that she is undergoing fertility treatment to freeze her eggs, documenting the medical process on social media while also confirming that she has not ruled out a run for the US presidency or the US Senate in 2028.

The 36-year-old New York Democrat shared footage on Instagram detailing her daily hormone injections, including clips of herself administering the shots into her abdomen. Ocasio-Cortez revealed that the entire procedure cost her at least $8,000 out-of-pocket because her insurance policy does not provide any coverage for it.

Normalizing Women's Reproductive Care

Ocasio-Cortez explained that she decided to take the public behind the scenes to open up wider conversations about reproductive healthcare and the practical hurdles professional women navigate. In her video updates, she noted that women are rarely taught adequate information about their bodies across different stages of life, ranging from puberty to pregnancy and menopause.

The lawmaker showed viewers the syringes, alcohol wipes, and medication regimens involved in the multi-day process. Demonstrating the demands of juggling treatment with her official schedule, Ocasio-Cortez noted she was administering injections inside a television studio dressing room ahead of a national broadcast interview.

Her candid openness drew praise across the political spectrum, including from conservative media personality Katie Miller, the wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller.

2028 Political Ambitions

Alongside her personal health disclosure, Ocasio-Cortez addressed her political future during an appearance on ABC's This Week. When asked about potential bids for higher office in 2028, the congresswoman stated that she has not ruled out running for president of the United States or for the US Senate in New York, where Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's seat will next be on the ballot.

While maintaining that her immediate focus remains on her work in the House and the upcoming midterm elections, Ocasio-Cortez told host Jonathan Karl that "anything is possible at this juncture" regarding her long-term career in national politics.
