Family Rescued After 16 Hours At Sea

A French family, consisting of a 50-year-old father and his two sons, aged 5 and 7, was rescued after their jet ski capsized off the coast of Thailand's Koh Samui island, leaving them stranded for over 16 hours.

The family had rented the jet ski for a 45-minute ride on Koh Samui at around 17:00 local time on Thursday, but rough waves struck the vehicle, causing the engine to stop, according to the father.

The family was found by rescuers at around 10:00 local time on Friday, exhausted and pale, but otherwise well, after swallowing a lot of seawater. They were taken to hospital for checks and discharged shortly afterwards.

The father described himself as an experienced jet ski driver, but the jet ski operator told local media that the family appeared to have traveled outside the agreed area specified in the rental contract.
