United Airlines has announced its largest international expansion in the company's nearly 100-year history, adding 10 new international destinations for 2027. The new destinations include Okinawa, Japan; Toulouse, France; Luxembourg City, Luxembourg; Marseille, France; Ibiza, Spain; Valencia, Spain; Terceira, Portugal; Ljubljana, Slovenia; Olbia, Italy; and Catania, Italy.

The new routes will connect U.S. travelers to various cities in Europe and Japan, with eight of the 10 destinations served from Newark Liberty International Airport. This expansion is a significant addition to United Airlines' international network, which already includes more than 160 international destinations.

The airline expects to have enough Airbus A321XLR deliveries to support its 2027 Europe expansion. The Airbus A321XLR will be used for five of the new routes, showcasing the airline's commitment to using modern and efficient aircraft.

United Airlines has added 58 international destinations since 2017, demonstrating its ongoing efforts to expand its global reach. The new routes will begin as early as March 2027, with the airline also restarting San Francisco to Tel Aviv service on March 28, 2027.

## Why it matters The expansion of United Airlines' international network is a significant development in the aviation industry. With tourism booming across Japan, the new routes to Okinawa and other destinations will provide more opportunities for travelers to explore new destinations. The allocation of slots by the FAA to United Airlines has enabled the expansion of routes from Newark Liberty International Airport, highlighting the importance of infrastructure and regulatory support for airline growth.

The new routes will not only provide more options for US travelers but also contribute to the growth of tourism and economic development in the destinations served. As United Airlines continues to expand its international network, it is likely to have a positive impact on the airline industry and the economies of the countries involved.
