Netflix Greenlights 'Stranger Things' Prequel 'Other Worlds'
The live-action series, set to debut in 2028, will explore events prior to the original series and stage play 'The First Shadow' in 1955 Marion, Nevada
Netflix has officially announced a live-action Stranger Things prequel series titled 'Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure', set to debut in 2028. The series is a prequel set in the 1950s, prior to the events of Stranger Things and The First Shadow, and will take place in 1955 in Marion, Nevada.
The series is co-created by Kate Trefry and the Duffer Brothers, who have been working on the idea since 2022. Joe Wright will direct the first three episodes and executive produce, with the series filming in New Mexico.
The series will explore events prior to Henry Creel being exposed to the otherworldly substance that gave him his powers in Stranger Things. While the creative team is stressing that it will feature a wholly new story with new characters, themes, and mythology, its connection to the stage play The First Shadow is undeniable.
## What to Expect The new series is set in Nevada, just a couple of years before the events of the Nevada experiment in The First Shadow. The series will answer questions about the rock young Henry Creel finds in a scientist's briefcase in the Nevadan caves, which was first introduced in The First Shadow before it was featured in Season 5 of Stranger Things.
## Background The Stranger Things universe has been expanding rapidly, with this being the fourth project set in the universe. In addition to the original show, which ended its run in 2025, there is also the animated series Stranger Things: Tales from '85 and the stage show Stranger Things: First Shadow. The spinoff was first reported to be in the works in 2022, and the announcement comes as part of Stranger Things Day, the annual celebration to mark the day Will Byers disappeared in the original show.
The series is expected to premiere in 2028, with more details about the plot and characters to be revealed in the coming months. With the creative team's track record and the success of the Stranger Things franchise, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure.
