Bengal Adds Syama Prasad Mookerjee To Curriculum

The West Bengal government has decided to include Syama Prasad Mookerjee's life and contributions in the state's curriculum from the next academic year. This decision was taken at the first meeting of a special committee constituted to plan and implement programmes marking the 125th birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
The committee, led by Suvendu Adhikari, announced that the School Education Department will include Syama Prasad Mookerjee's contribution to the country, his vision for independent India, and his constructive works in the syllabus from school to university levels. This move aims to make the next generation aware of Mookerjee's contributions.
In addition to the curriculum changes, the state government will also publish books on Syama Prasad Mookerjee. A comprehensive biography of Mookerjee will be published in Bengali and English by the state Library Department. Furthermore, a book on Mookerjee, prepared by an organisation associated with him, will be jointly published with the state government.
A 125-foot statue of Syama Prasad Mookerjee will be built at Eco Park, with a museum and other facilities. The bhoomi pujan for the statue project will be held at Eco Park, and the work is expected to be completed by July 6 next year, marking Mookerjee's 125th birth anniversary.
The state government will also restore Syama Prasad Mookerjee's ancestral home at Jirat in Hooghly district, where a library and museum will be set up. These initiatives are part of the state government's efforts to commemorate Mookerjee's 125th birth anniversary.
