The Poor Man's Rembrandt Project has returned to the Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam, bringing together tattoo artists to ink designs by Rembrandt van Rijn. This year, a journalist participated in the project, getting a Rembrandt-inspired tattoo for 200 euros. The design of the tattoo is based on Rembrandt's etching 'Self-Portrait with Beret, Wide-Eyed' from 1630.

The project is being held at the Rembrandt House Museum, where Rembrandt once lived and worked. Renowned Dutch tattoo artist Henk Schiffmacher, also known as Hanky Panky, is one of the participating artists. Schiffmacher has a career spanning more than 45 years and has tattooed celebrities including Lady Gaga and members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The journalist's tattoo was completed in about half an hour, with the design permanently etched into their skin. The project transforms centuries-old etchings into contemporary body art, bringing together two very different artistic traditions.

The museum's director, Milou Halbesma, says Rembrandt's self-portraits reveal his remarkable honesty, capturing every wrinkle and imperfection, including his own. The project runs until 7 November, giving visitors the opportunity to get their own Rembrandt-inspired tattoo.

## What it means The Poor Man's Rembrandt Project is not just about getting a tattoo, but about experiencing art in a unique way. By transforming Rembrandt's etchings into body art, the project gives visitors a chance to take a piece of art history with them. As Schiffmacher said, tattooing is an art form that accompanies its owner for life, making it a lasting impression.

The project's return is a testament to its popularity, with the first launch in 2023 being a success. The combination of Rembrandt's art and Schiffmacher's tattooing skills makes for a unique experience that attracts visitors from around the world. Whether you're an art lover or just looking for a unique experience, the Poor Man's Rembrandt Project is definitely worth checking out.
